Bird over ocean

Another art update! I’ve very nearly finished my Bird Over Ocean painting! Well, the painting itself is fully complete, all I have to left to do is to mount it, since it is on loose canvas. Tried hanging it on the wall as is, and it just did not look right. I know what I want to do with him, I just need to go over to my sister’s and borrow the use of some of my brother-in-law’s power tools. The final product will show up in the gallery as soon as he is mounted and hanging over my bed :D

I had anticipated that the final step for this painting would be putting the color on it. However, when I did that, it took a lot more detail out of him (the bird) than I expected. Definitely not okay with that ;) This fellow is a study in detail... a chance for me to really sink my teeth into some intricate detail, which I have loved doing! Not okay loosing that in the end, so the last step ended up being going back over those lines a second time. Much better now :D Now, he is done.

I have loved the focus on detail with this one, and the challenge... one reason I love working on loose, un-gessoed canvas. It affords me the challenge of having very little room for error (every brush stroke shows on the final product... can’t just paint over mistakes), and helps me learn to roll with the mistakes as they come (yeah, I’m not perfect ;)). I think I could do a whole blog post about that alone... hmm ....

But, for now, check out the progression and the so-very-nearly-completely-complete
