New bird

Currently have two paintings now in the works.

The previously mentioned “painting with teeth” was started up shortly after my last post... and it gave me... some trouble. It’s a simple painting that has been complicated for me. It has been changing form, as it’s meaning for me changes. The underdrawing has been done, but it’s a painting that I have made a decision to put down for now, and will pick up again, when I have a clear bead on what it is to me. Again, simple little painting in form, but otherwise complicated. Will post pictures of that one later, when I revisit it.

The second painting is just what I need to be painting now... it is time for me to paint birds. I love birds, and knew that I would eventually paint some... just had to wait for the right time, which is now ^_^. This guy is inspired by an old art deco book illustration (my husband sent a link to me), and my all time favorite video game, Zelda: Windwaker. Seeing the illustration was an “ah-ha!” moment for me, because it so distinctly looked like an elaborate version of the basic enemy birds (aka Kargarocs) in Windwaker. Seriously love this game, full of style and fun! Getting off topic though.

I’m truly enjoying working on this piece, and focusing on detail! It’s a big piece (3x6’) on loose canvas, and is really just for my own collection (aka I’m doing this one to keep it). Right now, I have the underpainting done for the bird. Next step is adding the lines for the ocean waves, then on to color! I start on the canvas by doing the drawing in chalk, so I can make adjustments without a permanent mark on the canvas. After that, I erase the chalk lines with water, as I do the painted lines. With patience, it can lend itself to detail on a simple background. Loose canvas is difficult to work with, and still keep the integrity of the “bare” canvas. Really pleased with the way this piece is going. Again, right where I need to be right now! I’ll keep updating here as the work progresses! I’m loosely calling it “bird over ocean” for now, which may or may not be the final title. ;P You can see it in progress

A note on the site, I’ve been having some trouble with technical problems, one of which is that it doesn’t want to show my previous blog posts, not matter how much I tell it to. I hope to get this, and other various problems, cleared up, with the help of my wonderful husband, who is much more tech savvy than myself. It will make it much easier and more straight forward to do more updates, and actually be regular and frequent about that! Thanks for bearing with me.
